Viral Tea has learnt that the incident resulted in the death of two people who were riding on a Bodaboda. The pilot and trainee pilot, however, and safely, disembarked from the wreckage, even though some reports indicated otherwise.
Other reports indicate that some schoolchildren walking home may have been victims of the plane crash. They say they were caught in the flames.
The two who were said to have been on the motorcycle had their heads hit by the plane as it attempted to land.
Clear images of the incident that emerged afterwards showed badly charred remains of the aircraft with first responders including fire and rescue, deployed on the scene. A motorcycle, which the two were said to have been riding on, is lying on the ground next to them.
Hundreds of residents gathered to witness the incident which caused a huge traffic snarl-up along the busy highway.
The plane is said to have landed on new hotel that was yet to be opened. This is next to some motorcycles in the area. More videos showed that parts of buildings on the side of the highway also caught fire.
The cause of the crash remains unknown at the moment. Authorities are yet to issue any statements following the incident.
Plane crashes in Kenya are a rarity, but when they occur, they have the potential to be deadly. In March 2024, a tragic mid-air collision between a training aircraft and a passenger plane near Wilson Airport resulted in two fatalities.
On September 16, a chartered flight carrying 10 passengers and one crew member crashed during takeoff in Migori. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities were reported.
One of the most prominent aircraft crashes in 2024 occurred in April, one that claimed the life of Chief of Defence Forces, General Francis Ogolla, along with nine other military officers.
