Sharon Atieno, Former football player, Ezekiel Otuoma’s ex-girlfriend who now lives abroad in the US recently left mourners in stitches after delivering a playful and heartfelt eulogy at his funeral in Siaya County.

She began by introducing herself as a former Mbotela Kamaliza player and a close friend of Otuoma. She declined to talk about her shared history with Otuoma, joking that, “If I share the whole story, I might break this home, and I don’t want to do that,”

Atieno also joked that she “left the home” for Otuoma’s wife, Rachael.

“This lady Rachael, I’m the one who left the home for her. If I wanted, I could have been there, but you know people from Siaya and Gem don’t stay together for long,” she quipped.

Sharon then reflected on their past when she and Otuoma lived in Makongeni, mentioning how she didn’t understand relationships back then.

“I wonder where he got this lady… but she helped him. They built a house and even had a wedding. If it were me, we would’ve stayed in Makongeni,” she laughed.

Despite the playful tone, Sharon revealed how she supported him during his illness. She often helped source medications and encouraged Rachael, who had been caregiving for Otuoma.

“I carried this guy. They would call me at least twice a month for medications only available outside. Rachael seemed weak and tired, but I kept encouraging her because I had dealt with a similar situation with a relative who was sick for 17 years,” Sharon said.

In her final words, Sharon appealed for peace, urging Kenyans to support Rachael and her mother-in-law rather than fueling tensions.
