One person died on the spot while two others were left nursing serious injuries following a road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
In a statement on Sunday, March 9, 2025, St. John Ambulance, a first aid and health charity organisation, confirmed the incident, noting that a pickup rammed into a truck.
The grisly crash occurred at Kwa Makara, Kinungi, along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
According to St. John Ambulance, the injured were given first aid before being rushed to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital.
“The incident involved a pickup that rammed into a truck at Kwa Makara, Kinungi along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, adding to the growing toll of road carnage in the area.
“The St. John Kenya first responders braved the cold night to provide first aid, ensuring the injured were taken to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital,” the statement read in part.
“Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. Road safety must be a priority!”
16 injured in same area
According to St. John Ambulance, the latest incident came barely 12 hours after 16 passengers sustained serious injuries following an accident at the same sport.
“One person killed on the spot and two others injured in yet another road crash at Kinungi, less than 12 hours after the last accident left 16 casualties,” the organisation stated.
On Saturday, March 8, 2025, the St John Ambulance Kenya reported that 16 people were injured when a personal car had a head-on collision with a matatu.
The injured were rushed to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital for specialized care.
“Head-on collision at Kinungi Soweto involving a personal car and a matatu leaves 16 casualties,” the statement read in part.
St. John Ambulance Kenya said that the volunteers responded swiftly, providing lifesaving first aid before rushing to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital.
The organisation, however appealed to motorists to observe traffic rules to reduce road accidents in the country.
According to a report by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), over 4,282 people were killed in road crashes by November 2024.
As per the report, the majority of the fatalities recorded for that year were pedestrians and boda boda riders.
