Murang’a County Senator Joe Nyutu has revealed how former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua prepared the people of the Mount Kenya region how to spend President William Ruto’s money during his tour of the region.

Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Wednesday, April 3, 2025, Nyutu expressed that the overwhelming warm reception was not a surprise to him as the residents were adequately prepared and encouraged to attend the rallies.

He went on to state that Gachagua had urged the residents to turn out In numbers and receive the money disbursed during the tour for their own good.

The senator revealed that they had advised every attendee to be paid around Ksh20,000, explaining that the money would help them solve their issues as it had been diverted from the greater good.

“The second Deputy President advised our people that there was money which would have taken care of education, SHA, and our children at home. However, this money has been diverted from the greater good and if you don’t go take it, it will be squandered anyway.

“We advised them to come out in large numbers and take the money, the only thing we told them is not to take cheap money because there was going to be a price for attendance, a price for clapping and smiling. And that is exactly what William Ruto did,” he said.

Gachagua’s message

Gachagua had on Saturday, March 29, 2025, asked Mt Kenya residents to charge the president exorbitantly if paid to listen to him.

He, however, warned the residents not to take the money home nor use it to buy livestock and pay fees stating that the money was cursed., contradicting Nyutu’s sentiments.

Si ata saizi anajiandaa kuja kutembea uko, anakuja kusema ukweli ama uongo? Si mnajua, lakini tumesema msijali (Even now, he is preparing for a visit; he is coming to say the truth or lies? You already know but we have said do not worry about that)

Pesa imepangwa kwa magunia mujitayarishe, mkule lakini msipeleke hio nyumbani imelaaniwa. Mkule pale kwa market pekee yake na msichanganye ha ile yenu ya zamani (Money has been packed in sacks so prepare yourselves eat the money but do not take it home or mix with your money),” Gachagua warned.

Na tumesema kama ni kuskiza uonge, mlipishe bei ghali. Sasa usipewe mia mbili kuskiza uongo utakuwa wewe ni mjinga (And we have said, if it is listening to lies then you must charge expensive. So do not receive Ksh200 to listen to lies, you will be fools). Listening to lies is Ksh3,000 and above,” he affirmed.
