Mwansa confided in his wife, Sarah Mubanga, a 31-year-old nurse at Livingstone University Teaching Hospital, stating that he felt unworthy of living because of the challenges he was facing.

At around 11:00 hours on April 8, 2025, Mwansa called his wife and informed her that he was going to take his life by hanging himself. Sarah Mubanga rushed home to try and rescue her husband, but upon arrival, she found him hanging from the bathroom window burglar bar, approximately two meters from the floor.

With the help of neighbors, she cut the necktie he had used to hang himself and attempted to save his life, but unfortunately, it was too late.

Isaac Mukwati, Ward Councillor for Mosi-oa-Tunya Ward, reported the incident to Livingstone Central Police Station. Upon arrival, the police found the deceased body lying in the passage, and they proceeded to inspect the area and collect evidence, including two pieces of the necktie used in the incident.

A suicide note, believed to have been written by Mwansa, was also discovered in the spare bedroom. Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Auxensio Daka, who confirmed the sad news in a statement, said the body was examined, and strangulation marks were observed around the neck, with no additional physical injuries.

Mwansa’s body was taken to Batoka Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination and burial.
