Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Man, DAVISON MUDENDA, arrested after he killed his dog with the intention of eating it.

A 22-year-old man of Choma has allegedly admitted to killing his dog with the intention of cooking and eating it.

Davison Mudenda is reported to have returned home after performing some work earlier and began playing with his dog in the yard.

He later disappeared with the dog and returned home 30 minutes later carrying a box that contained the dog’s head and its meat.

Southern Province Commanding Officer Auxensio Daka said the incident occurred on April 9 around 11:00 hours.

“According to Ivy Mudenda, at around 09:00 hours, while she was performing house chores, she saw her son return home after having left earlier in the morning for some manual jobs. He began playing with his dog in the yard but later disappeared along with the animal,” he said.

He explained that the suspect reappeared about 30 minutes later carrying a box, which he left outside before entering the house.

Mr Daka said that when his mother checked the contents of the box, she discovered the dog’s head and meat inside.

“She questioned her son about killing the dog, and he responded that he intended to eat the meat. Concerned by the incident, she informed the neighbours, who helped take him to Mwapona Police Post,” he said.

Mr Daka explained that before officers could attend to the matter, a mob of curious residents gathered, demanding to see the individual, as rumours had spread that he was attempting to sell the dog meat to unsuspecting members of the public.

He added that reinforcement was called in, and officers from Choma Police Station went to the police post where they found the suspect in custody.

“The dog meat, which was packed in a box along with the animal’s head, was also found. When questioned by police, the suspect maintained that he intended to consume the meat. Further investigations did not reveal any evidence that he planned to sell it to members of the public,” he said.
