Ruto gazettes appointment of Ruku, Cheptumo into Cabinet

President William Ruto has formally announced the appointment of two new Cabinet Secretaries and 14 Principal Secretaries.

In a Gazette Notice dated Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the President named Geoffrey Ruku and Hanna Cheptumo as Public Service, Human Capital Development & Special Programmes, and Gender, Culture, the Arts, and Heritage Cabinet Secretaries, respectively.

“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by Article 152 (2) of the Constitution of Kenya, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint- Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, Geoffrey K. Kiringa Ruku, to be Cabinet Secretaries of the Government of the Republic of Kenya, with effect from the 17th April, 2025,” the Gazette Notice read in part.

This comes after the National Assembly approved the appointments of Ruku and Cheptumo as CSs following their vetting by the Committee on Appointments on Monday, April 14, 2025.

Their appointments, which take effect on April 17, 2025, were made under Article 152 (2) of the Kenyan Constitution.

The head of state also appointed 14 individuals to serve as Principal Secretaries under Article 155 (3)(b) of the Constitution.

Those appointed include Jane Kere Imbunya, Regina Akoth Ombam, Cyrell Odede Wagunda, Caroline Wanjiru Karugu, Fredrick Ouma Oluga, Ahmed Abdisalan Ibrahim, Judith Nayiai Ramaita-Pareno, Bonface Barasa Makokha, Shaukat Ali Abdulruzak, Stephen Isaboke, Michael Lenasalon, Fikirini Jacobs Katoi Kahindi, Carren Ageng’o Achieng, and Aden Abdi Millah.

Adding;

“(Dr..) Fredrick Ouma Oluga (Dr.), Ahmed Abdisalan Ibrahim, Judith Nayiai Ramaita-Pareno, Bonface Barasa Makokha, Shaukat Ali Abdulruzak (Prof.), Stephen Isaboke, Michael Lenasalon, Fikirini Jacobs Katoi Kahindi, Carren Ageng’o Achieng. Aden Abdi Millah, to be Principal Secretary of the Government of the Republic of Kenya, with effect from the 17th April, 2025.”

The new Cabinet and Principal Secretaries are expected to be sworn into office on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
