Content creator and Comedian Njugush, whose real name is Paul Kimani, has challenged Kenyan leaders to endeavour to speak the truth at all times and not just when befell with political fall-outs.

Speaking during a live TV interview on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the actor blasted politicians for what he described as their tendency to speak on matters concerning the plight of citizens only after they have been hounded out of office.

“The problem we are having is that we have seen a pattern of leaders making merry and taking photos with the president when is all going well. But once they are out of office they bombard us with press conferences. My issue is can’t we talk the truth when we are there,” he stated.

The comedian went further to provide a comical facet of the development, stating that the public has in turn become privy to some concealed issues that could have remained concealed were it not for such fallouts.

“It excites us though as we get to know some hidden truth we didn’t know that come to the light,” he added on a light note.

The former student of the Kenya Mass Institute of Communication (KIMC) also accused the government of misplacing priorities and obsessing over parochial matters, citing its intervention in the Butere Girls fiasco and the past cases of abduction in the nation.

“The government seemed to be majoring in on minor issues. We have had plays like ‘Shackles of Doom’ and others in the past. I think we are not supposed to be discussing this matter,” he added.

“We need to be truthful with each other. I’d like someone to tell me why it is not dictatorial when you tell the media to switch off the cameras. Why do we need to toe the line, if not you’re abducted or worse off killed. We have seen footage of policemen shooting at people and when we say that’s wrong, we are met with the claims that the youths are under the influence of drugs. It is not in order,” the comedian stated.

“We just want things to work and not to demonize other persons. Nobody hates (Cleophas) Malala or the president or our leaders, But they need to listen to what they are saying” he concluded.
