Geoffrey Ruku and Hanna Cheptumo have been sworn in as Public Service, Human Capital Development & Special Programmes, and Gender, Culture, the Arts, and Heritage Cabinet Secretaries, respectively.
The two, alongside appointed Principal Secretaries, took their oaths of office at State House on Thursday, April 17, 2025, in the presence of President William Ruto.
The ceremony at the State House follows the confirmation of their nominations by the Committee on Appointments.
After the parliamentary committee approved the nominations, President Ruto consequently appointed them through a gazette notice dated April 16, 2025.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 152 (2) of the Constitution of Kenya, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Hanna Wendot Cheptumo and Geoffrey K. Kiringa Ruku to be Cabinet Secretaries of the Government of the Republic of Kenya, with effect from the 17th of April, 2025,” the Gazette Notice read in part.
Muturi exits, enters Ruku
Ruku now comes in as the new CS in Ruto’s cabinet, replacing Justin Muturi, who was shown the door following the recent reshuffle.
Muturi had turned into a government critic, especially after his son was abducted, and this has been linked with his cabinet dismissal.
