Reggae MC and hypeman John Maina, popularly known as MC Fullstop, has finally broken his silence following swirling online rumours claiming that he had died, questioning the motive behind the spread of such misleading and disturbing claims.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, April 17, 2025, the celebrated MC attached screenshots of viral posts made by his fans, sharing that he was finding it difficult to connect the dots as to why such claims were circulating and, more importantly, where they had first originated from.
In the post, the screenshots featured a range of messages, some posted as flat death announcements, while others had gone the extra mile, penning emotional tribute messages as though he had genuinely passed on.
Some posts, judging by the interactions, had even attracted a flood of reactions, as stunned fans of the iconic city entertainer expressed their shock at the news of his supposed untimely demise, while others unthinkingly began reposting the content.
“But why?” MC Fullstop captioned the post, where he had attached seven screenshots from individuals who had been at the centre of spreading the death rumours.
Genesis of claims
The rumours of the artiste’s death first surfaced on Facebook nearly a week ago before snowballing to TikTok, where unsuspecting fans, without verifying the claims, began sharing glowing tributes in his honour.
However, since neither the artiste nor any of his close family members had stepped forward to dismiss the rumours, the narrative continued to spread unchecked — until Thursday, April 17, when he decisively quashed the claims himself.
Remarkably, during this entire period, he had remained active on social media, though his posts had focused on unrelated subjects such as upcoming shows and football, which only deepened the confusion among his followers.
Illness
In March 2023, MC Fullstop had publicly shared details about a debilitating lung condition he had been struggling with following a hospital admission, stating that the illness had reached a critical stage, having completely consumed his entire left lung.
At the time, he revealed that the lung condition had been caused by a long-term tuberculosis infection, which had also taken a toll on him physically — making it difficult for him to walk, talk, or even run comfortably.
According to him, the collapse of his left lung was discovered during a diagnosis carried out in 2019, and the deterioration had brought further challenges, as it had in the following year, 2022, severely impacted his throat, thereby compromising his ability to perform.
“Hii imeenda. Literally. My left lung has totally collapsed; nimebaki na moja. In 2021, I was diagnosed with TB ya the lungs, ikasosi lungs kabisa. 2022 nikapata TB ya throat, nayo ikanimaliza sauti. Running, walking, and kuongea ni shida…” he tweeted.
Further, Fullstop — who has since made a cautious return to the entertainment scene — also disclosed that he was considering stepping away from the industry entirely, explaining that, unlike the liver, lungs do not possess the ability to heal themselves.
He also took a moment to extend heartfelt thanks to his loyal fans who stood by him throughout the turbulent journey, stating that he continued to count his blessings as he awaited whatever life had in store for him.
“Alafu lungs zina lungs ufala; unlike liver, haiwezi ji heal, itabidi nijipange hapa naona niki hang boots. I just want to say thanks kwa wale wamekuwa wakini support in these difficult moments. God awa bless tu sana,” he added.
