President William Ruto made a rare appearance at a high-profile wedding on Friday, April 18, 2025, where he was seen celebrating the union of Tamara Wetang’ula, the daughter of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, and her sweetheart, Anthony Njoroge.
The grand ceremony, held in an intimate yet vibrant setting, was a focal point for Kenya’s political elite.
President Ruto was joined by several prominent leaders, including Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka, Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa, Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa among others.
Environment CS Deborah Barasa took to social media to share details of the ceremony:
“Today I had the honour of joining the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Moses Wetang’ula and the family in witnessing the wedding ceremony of his daughter Tamara Wetangula to Antony Njoroge. ‘Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.’ (Mark 10:9). Congratulations to the newlyweds,” she wrote.
The wedding followed a meticulous pre-wedding ceremony held on April 4, 2025, at the Wetang’ula family home in Kanduyi, Bungoma County.
The green-themed event, also attended by senior government officials, celebrated the couple’s engagement in traditional style.
At the pre-wedding, CS Barasa also shared her wishes:
“I joined the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, and the family in his daughter’s pre-marriage ceremony of Tamara Wetangula to Antony Njoroge. Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favour from the Lord. Wishing you a happy engagement and a lovely, bright future.”
Tamara Wetang’ula is a civil engineer, just like her brother, Alvin Habwe Wetang’ula, who sits on the board of the Kenya Railways Corporation.
The ceremony highlighted not only a personal milestone for the Wetang’ula family but also a moment of unity among some of the country’s top leaders, who turned up to celebrate the special day.
