President William Ruto has pledged to give Ksh10 million towards the construction of a plaza for pastors in Narok County.
Speaking after an Easter Sunday service in Ntulele, Narok County, on April 20, 2025, Ruto responded to a pastor’s request for a symbol of the State Lodge by saying that since a State Lodge cannot be built in Mosiro Ward, he will instead support the construction of a pastors’ plaza.
“Kuna ujenzi mnataka hapa; hii Mosiro plaza ya pastors sasa, kwa sababu hatuwezi kujenga Ikulu hapa; tutajenga hiyo plaza ya mapastors, na nitatafuta millioni kumi tuanzishe tujenge hiyo plaza.
(There is a construction you want here… Mosiro Plaza for pastors. Because we can not construct a state lodge, we will build the plaza for pastors. I will look for Ksh.10 million to kick off construction of the plaza,” Ruto said.
He added that if there are any delays or obstacles along the way, he would seek help from governors, senators, and MPs to push the project forward.
The Head of State further said the plaza would act as a symbol of the presidency in the area, as a sign of support for the church and its leaders.
“Na mukikwama hapo njiani nitatumana hawa marafiki zangu, ma governors, senators, na wabunge wetu; tutakuja kusukuma. Kutakuwa na ishara hapa ya ikulu.
(And if you get stuck… I will send my friends, senators, and governors. There will be a sign of the State Lodge,” he added.
Ruto on church construction
On Sunday, March 9, 2025, Ruto pledged support for the construction of churches across Kenya, reaffirming his commitment to advancing God’s work despite growing criticism.
Speaking during a thanksgiving service at AIC Annexe in Kesses, Uasin Gishu, he addressed the broader controversy surrounding donations and church construction in Kenya, particularly the criticism from those who question politicians’ contributions to church projects.
“Najua kuna controversy kubwa sana hii Kenya, shetani amekuwa na kiburi; there has been a big controversy in this nation about giving to our churches and about building sanctuaries in the Republic of Kenya. That controversy is about giving, about building our churches, and about the place of God in Kenya,” he stated.
Despite the opposition, Ruto made it clear that Kenya would remain steadfast in its commitment to supporting God’s work, promising that those who oppose religious initiatives in Kenya would ultimately fail.
“The pushback from the people who do not believe in God, who do not believe in building churches, who do not believe that we should be supporting the work of God in Kenya. I want to say as the leader of this nation by God’s grace, in this nation, God will be known and God be strong and we will do great exploits in this nation.
“I want to say as a leader of Kenya in this rock of the nation called Kenya we are going to build God’s church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against Kenya and those who are against the word of God in Kenya, those who are against the building of sanctuaries in Kenya, supporting the word of God in Kenya they will fail because they will not overcome us,” he added.
