Nairobi Member of County Assembly (MCA) representing Kariobangi North ward Joel Munuve is dead.
Kileleshwa ward MCA Robert Alai, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, took to his official social media accounts to mourn Munuve as his brother and friend.
“My brother and friend Hon. Joel Munuve (MCA Kariobangi North), rest in peace,” Alai stated.
Munuve mourned
Karen MCA Anthony Maragu also took to his official X account to mourn Munuve, terming him a selfless leader who served Kariobangi North with passion and humility.
Maragu went ahead to state that Munuve’s impact will live on in the hearts of many.
“Deeply saddened by the loss of my brother and colleague, Hon. Joel Munuve. A selfless leader who served Kariobangi North with passion and humility. His impact will live on in the hearts of many. May his soul find eternal peace,” Maragu wrote on X.
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has also expressed his condolences to the deceased’s family and the entire Nairobi County fraternity.
“Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve has passed on. My sincere condolences to his family, the entire Nairobi County assembly, and Nairobi County government fraternities. May the Almighty God give you strength, comfort, and hope during this difficult period,” Sonko stated.
Munuve’s death
Reports indicate that Munuve died while undergoing treatment at one of the private hospitals located along Kiambu Road.
Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Kennedy Ngondi has confirmed to the media that Munuve was headed to the office in the CBD when he developed chest pains. His body has since been moved to Lee Funeral Home pending autopsy.
“The leadership of the County Assembly of Nairobi is deeply saddened to announce the untimely passing of one of our members, Joel Munuve, who is the elected member to date for the Kariobangi North ward. He suddenly collapsed and passed away earlier today. Munuve was a dedicated leader, a tireless servant of the people and a passionate voice in the assembly,” Ngondi said in a press conference.
Munuve clinched the Kariobangi North ward seat as an independent candidate. Despite having Akamba roots, Munuve spoke fluent Luo and was a vocal panellist on Luo media stations.
