Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie alias KJ has raised concerns on the sudden death of Kariobangi North Member of County Assembly (MCA) Joel Munuve on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
Speaking during a session at the National Assembly, Kiarie called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to leave no stone unturned, observing that his work at the county could in some way be linked to the death.
“We would not want to place the blame anywhere. Let that be left to the investigating authorities. All we are asking is to ensure that the death of Munuve is investigated to the full, and that no stone is left unturned. Let us not imagine that the issues that he was canvassing have no connection to the sudden death of a very passionate leader,” Kiarie noted.
Curious death
“The death of Joel Munuve is a curious death, especially at a time when he was raising very pertinent issues about the leadership and the goings-on in City Hall.”
Munuve, who had been elected on an independent ticket in 2022, spoke fluent Kamba and Dholuo and was a regular panellist in vernacular radio stations, criticising the leadership of Nairobi County.
“Only three days before his death, Joel Munuve dared to first collect signatures for the impeachment of the governor of Nairobi County. Secondly, he had said that he was going to reveal very damning information about the goings-on in City Hall,” Kiarie remarked.
Munuve had equally threatened to embark on an exercise to collect the signatures necessary to initiate an impeachment motion against Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
“Even as we are saying pole to the family of MCA Joel Munuve, I wish that this house would stand up and call upon the investigative authorities not to gloss over this matter because this matter may have very serious interests that go very high up,” Kiarie noted.
Demanded answers
The MP joined a number of leaders who have openly demanded answers to the death of the City MCA, who, according to Nairobi County Speaker Kennedy Ng’ondi, had no previously recorded health issues before his sudden death.
The MCA was out of his residence on Tuesday morning when he complained about sharp pains before he rushed to the AAR Hospital along Kiambu Road where he collapsed and died on arrival.
Sakaja mourned Munuve as a dedicated servant of the people of Kariobangi, wishing his family, friends and the people of Kariobangi North peace.
“On behalf of the Nairobi City County Government. I extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the people of Kariobangi North during this incredibly difficult time. May they find strength in the legacy he leaves behind, and may his soul rest in eternal peace,” Sakaja stated.
