Former Migori County Governor Okoth Obado on Thursday, April 24, 2025, told the court that he did not end his relationship with his lover Sharon Otieno because of the pregnancy.
During a re-examination by his lawyer, Roger Sagana, at the Milimani High Court, Obado stated that he ended the relationship with Sharon because of inconsistency.
“My lady, I did not terminate my relationship with Sharon because people came to know about it, I decided to end it because of inconsistencies,” Obado told the court.
Parted ways
Further, he stated that he did not end it after their affair came out in the public, adding that people came to know about it after they had already parted ways.
“After we terminated the relationship, that is when people came to know about it,” Obado told the court.
Obado said that, according to his imagination, his relationship with Sharon came to light after she started talking about it.
“Our relationship became an open secret, maybe after the late Sharon started talking about it. That is just my imagination,” Obado told the court.
Lawyer Roger Sagana asked Obado whether he was comfortable with Sharon carrying his child.
In his response, Obado said that when she informed him about the pregnancy, he told her it was okay and he had no issues with it.
Provided upkeep
Obado also revealed that he was still providing for Sharon even after terminating their relationship in February/March 2018 till she was killed, and that he had previously assisted her to grow her business before they broke up.
He told the court that he also gave her money to pay for insurance cover to cater for her medical needs during the pregnancy period.
Additionally, he said that the Investigative Officer (IO) Nicholas Ole Sena confirmed that he offered Sharon assistance directly, even after they had broken up, until the late Mula came into the picture.
“My lady initially, I was assisting her to grow her business, but after we broke up, the level of the assistance reduced just to mere basics of upkeep but I still had plans to buy land and build her a house,” Obado stated.
Notably, he said the idea of building her a home was just to settle her for the child she was carrying for him, and he wanted to be a responsible person by ensuring she settled comfortably.
“My lady, in the meantime, as we were waiting for the house to be constructed, she suggested moving from her mother’s home to a rented house in Homabay town, which I was okay with,” Obado told the court.
He also told the court that Sharon herself wanted a more expensive house in Nairobi or Kisumu, but he was comfortable with building her a home which he felt he could afford.
However, he told the court that Sharon initially stood her ground on where she wanted him to buy her a house, but the late Mula convinced her to accept the Homa Bay home he was intending to build for her.
Ksh100,000
During re-examination, it was also revealed that on August 17, 2018, Sharon sent a message to Obado thanking him for Ksh100,000 he had sent her.
“I got the Ksh100,000 you send me, we will arrange how to pay the house tomorrow,” Obado read the message to the court.
The defense hearing for his two co-accused Micheal Oyamo and Casper Obiero will proceed from May 19, 2025 to May 23, 2025
