Kenyan singer Kelvin Bahati has finally hit back at netizens who, since he gifted his wife Diana Marua a G-Wagon Brabus on February 25, 2025, have been throwing shade at it, claiming it is fake.

Speaking during an exclusive interview on the Mic Cheque podcast on Sunday, April 27, 2025, the singer laughed off claims that the G-Wagon is fake and asserted that all the netizens who had propagated the narrative that it was a refurbished Subaru were utterly mistaken.

“But at the end of the day, I let bloggers be. But when I have an event or anything special, I invite them. How could you possibly call a G-Wagon a Subaru?” he said.

Bahati revealed that the fake G-Wagon story is just one among many that bloggers have found convenient to sensationalise because it benefits them by driving traffic to their platforms, and he added that he does not harbour any deep resentment towards people who like to exaggerate things about him online.

According to him, this is also one of the reasons why he does not frequently appear in interviews, as people are always eagerly waiting for him to speak so that they can start misinterpreting and overanalysing his words.

“I like it when I show up, make some noise, leave people talking, and then go back to work. When she texted me, I was busy planning the Bahati Bet initiative. But I am happy. I don’t do interviews often because when you talk too much, you end up overexplaining yourself, and as a man, everyone has a weakness,” the singer said.

Bahati added that, however, unlike the G-Wagon story, which does not carry a far-reaching impact that could affect his family, he expressed that he always comes out to defend and dispel certain rumours — or even take action — when something outrageous and potentially harmful to his family’s future is perpetuated.

“One of the things is I appreciate everyone’s work, and the role of the media is to report, and my role is to be reported on, so I normally do not catch feelings — unless there is something serious that you feel you must control, because in future it might come back to haunt you,” he said.

On the same note, the ‘Mama’ crooner also addressed reports that some influencers who had attended the launch of his betting platform had been disappointed when he unveiled a betting website, as they had expected something entirely different given the immense hype he had built around the launch.

He shared that he was well aware that some of the influencers had existing engagements with rival betting sites and may have felt disillusioned, but he stressed that they should not harbour any resentment because he plans to offer the majority of them jobs once he starts hiring influencers to promote the platform.

“That’s alright. They did well, manze. Let them relax because I will give them all jobs. No one knew — not even the MCs, not even the hosts. Even the sound and screen teams only found out that morning. It was the best-kept secret,” he said.

Furthermore, the singer revealed that he had nearly slipped into depression while organising the eight gifts that he presented to his wife, Diana Marua, during their eighth marriage anniversary, insisting that it had not been an easy task.

He shared that he had single-handedly organised all the surprises and emphasised that the reason he had chosen to serve them to audiences as surprises was because he understands that Kenyan audiences are more supportive when they do not know exactly what you are working on.

On that note, Bahati also advised people not to be too quick to share their visions with others, suggesting that mastering the art of secrecy is crucial if one wishes their plans to truly succeed.

“Organising something big without involving people is difficult. Planning eight gifts is hard. It was pure depression. But I wanted to keep it a surprise. People support you more when they do not know where you are headed. Once they know your vision, everything changes. We kept everything confidential. We genuinely did not care because if you are a true friend, we should not have to explain. Unless you came to create content, the genuine ones were truly happy,” he said.
