Former Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang’i will be making his first public appearance in the Gusii region this year.
According to a press release shared by Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, the former CS will make a presence to the Gusii land on Friday, May 2, 2025.
“The team Matiang’i secretariat, responsible for coordinating the engagements of our leader, Dr Fred Okeng’o Matiang’i, is pleased to inform the public that the former Cabinet Secretary will make his first public appearance this year in the Gusii region on Friday, May 2, 2025,” part of the statement shared reads.
During his visit to the region, the former CS will do a meet-the-people tour and official courtesy visits to the offices of the respective Governors of Kisii and Nyamira Counties.
Within the counties, Matiang’i will make key stop-overs at Kijauri, Keroka, Keumbu, Kisii Town, and Nyamira.
Matiang’i says the purpose of his visit is to highlight his commitment to listening to the people and reconnecting with the grassroots.
He will be accompanied by all elected leaders from the Gusii region including Governors; Simba Arati and Amos Nyaribo.
Senators Momoima Onyonka and Okong’o Omogeni as well as Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of County Assembly (MCAs) will also be in attendance.
Matiang’i meets Gachagua and Kalonzo
The latest development comes barely days after Matiang’i met former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka after jetting back into the country.
Also present at the meeting was People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, Democratic Action Party (DAP) party leader Eugene Wamalwa, former Public Service CS Justin Muturi, former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi and Mukhisa Kitui.
Details of their meeting was concealed, however, stipulations were rife that the meeting signifies potential political realignments ahead of 2027 polls.
“Welcoming our brothers @DrFredMatiang @skmusyoka @rigathi @EugeneLWamalwa,” Karua wrote shortly after their meeting.
Gachagua and Kalonzo shared similar sentiments to Matiang’i, Linturi and Muturi to their team, noting that they were on the right side of history.
“The team to liberate Kenya gets bigger every day. Welcome, Dr Fred Matiangi, Hon. JB Muturi and Hon. Mithika Linturi. You are on the right side of history,” Gachagua posted.
“A very good morning and welcome onboard. This is the team that will komboa Kenya,” Kalonzo said.
