Bishop Edward Mwai of Jesus Winner Ministry has asked his congregants not to attack intruders who had invaded the church in anticipation of protests.
Speaking in the church pulpit on Sunday, March 9, 2025, Mwai said that he was aware the people that were outside the church were not Jesus Winner believers.
He argued that some had gone to the extent of designing church badges to conceal their identity to gain access.
Bishop Mwai on intruders
The bishop who has been at the center of a storm for accepting President William Ruto’s Ksh20 million donation, went on to describe those loitering outside the church precinct as goons.
However, he asked his believers not to touch anyone in retaliation, arguing that some political leaders have been using people’s children wrongly.
“They will know there is God in heaven. Lakini watoto wetu ambao wametumiwa vibaya, Mungu awasamehee. Ata wale wako pale sio watoto wetu, ni mikora. Ata wengine walikuwa na badge za Jesus Winner. Mimi sitaki ata mtu mmoja aguzwe. Ata mmoja asiguzwe na mtu please kwa sababu sisi ni wapenda amani, tunapenda Mungu. Ebu kaeni chini kwanza kwa sababu nyinyi saa ingine mnachemkanga. (But may God forgive our children who have been used badly. Even those you see over there are not part of us; they are goons. Some had even put on Jesus Winner badges, but let you not touch anyone. Even a single person should not be touched because we love peace and God. Please sit down first, because I know you can really overreact sometimes),” the Bishop said.
Heavy police deployment
Earlier on, there was a heavy police deployment at the Jesus Winner Ministry Church in Nairobi’s Roysambu after a section of Kenyans threatened to occupy the church following the head pastor’s decision to accept Ksh20 million from President William Ruto.
The officers were stationed at the church’s gates, while others patrolled its precincts, inspecting the surroundings for any potential intruders.
A section of Kenyans had condemned Bishop Mwai’s decision to accept the substantial donation from the head of state, arguing that it is inappropriate given the country’s ongoing economic hardships.
The donation was made on Sunday, March 2, 2025, during President Ruto’s visit to the church, which is led by Bishop Edward Mwai.
During the service, Ruto surprised attendees by pledging to rally his associates to contribute an additional Ksh100 million to the church, asserting that he was no longer bowing to pressure from the clergy, who had criticised his practice of making donations to religious institutions.
