The DCI has responded to serious claims made by Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah regarding the abduction of popular cartoonist, Gideon Kibet, known as Kibet Bull.
On Thursday, December 26, Omtatah accused the DCI of using one of their signature white Subaru vehicles in the abduction of Kibet.
Omtatah claimed that a white Subaru was parked near his office in Taj Towers, Nairobi, when Kibet Bull paid him a visit on December 26.
And that the vehicle, which remained parked for the duration of Kibet’s meeting, was involved in tracking and intercepting Kibet’s phone conversations before his abduction.
DCI Statement on the Abduction
DCI released a statement categorically denying any involvement in the abduction or the use of a white Subaru vehicle. And claimed that the allegations were baseless and aimed at sensationalizing the situation.
“The suggestion that a vehicle belonging to the DCI was involved in any alleged abduction is not only unfounded but also sensationalizes a sensitive issue,” the DCI stated.
The DCI rejected these accusations, urging public leaders to refrain from making speculative statements that could hinder the investigation.
The investigative body claimed to be thoroughly looking into the abduction of Kibet Bull and other related cases, without tolerating any extrajudicial actions within its ranks.
The DCI’s response comes amid growing concerns about the rising number of abductions in Kenya, with several individuals, including Kibet Bull, disappearing after being targeted for their online activities.
The police have vowed to investigate these incidents, and the DCI has called on the public to come forward with credible information to help resolve these cases.
