Milimani Magistrate Court on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, granted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) 30 more days to complete investigations over the man accused of impersonating President William Ruto on X.

Appearing before Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi, the prosecution informed the court that the DCI has not yet completed investigations on the matter, where Titus Wekesa Sifuna is accused of publishing content demeaning the head of state on X.

The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) was seeking an additional month to allow investigators led by Peter Mwangi to complete their investigations, urging the court to slot a hearing in May.

However, lawyer Kennedy Echesa, representing Sifuna, told the court that he is a teacher in Msambweni, Kwale County, and in May he will be held up at work, thus proposing the mention to be done during the school holiday in August.

“Your honour, my client is a teacher in Kwale, and I humbly request this court to have the matter mentioned in August when the schools close for the holiday,” lawyer Echesa told the court.

Alternatively, lawyer Echesa asked the court if they could slot the mention in June during the school’s midterm to ensure he is not inconvenienced, to which the court agreed to their proposal.

Principal Magistrate Ben Mark considered the lawyer’s request and ruled that the matter will be heard on June 26, 2025.

Sifuna released

On Friday, April 25, 2025, Milimani Court Senior Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo released Sifuna on a Ksh1 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Ksh100, 000.

This was after the magistrate declined an application by the DPP to continue detaining for five more days.

The DPP sought to detain the suspect for five more days, citing that the Investigative Officer (IO), Peter Mwangi, is yet to complete the investigations.

They informed the court that IO Mwangi has so far managed to serve orders to X handle providers and the Communications Authority of Kenya to provide them with information on posts made in the said X account.

However, the prosecution stated that they have only been served with a few posts and are expecting the authority to avail all the information requested so as to be able to make a decision on the charges against Wekesa.

“Your honour, so far they have only been able to avail a few posts that were on the X handle, and we are yet to receive the entire information that had been requested,” the DPP prosecutors told the court.
