Comedian, scriptwriter, and filmmaker Eddie Butita has opened up about his views on relationships and why he is taking his time before settling down.
Speaking during an interview with Dr Ofweneke on Friday, April 25, 2025, Butita shared that he sees relationships as delicate matters that should not be rushed. He emphasised the importance of being cautious when choosing a life partner.
“For me, my perspective is that relationships are a delicate thing, something that you ought to be very careful with. Because that is the only chance to meet someone you spend the rest of your life with,” Butita said.
He explained that entering relationships without clear intentions can lead to constant heartbreak and unnecessary emotional attachments.
“You cannot keep having covenants and binding soul ties with random people, and of course, there are chances of breakups all the time. So if you are not sure, do not step in one,” he added.
Butita stressed the importance of understanding why one wants to be in a relationship, warning against getting into relationships just to fill emotional voids or satisfy temporary needs.
“There are many ways of having fun, not to be misquoted. Whatever you are getting in a relationship is what you can access without a relationship, then there is no need for one,” he said.
He went on to explain that a relationship should be built on strong, genuine intentions, not fear of losing the other person.
“You need to be mindful of why you want a relationship. We should not be in one because we are scared of losing each other, rather because we want to be and because it’s the ultimate goal,” Butita noted.
He revealed that he has remained silent on matters of relationships because he prefers to be cautious rather than jumping from one relationship to another.
“So when you say I’ve been silent in matters of relationships, I am just being careful. Because I’m not the type to jump into one relationship after another,” he explained.
Relationship status
Recently, Butita also spoke about his relationship status during an interview with content creator and YouTuber President Law on February 3, 2025.
When asked why he is never seen with anyone or why there are no rumours about his love life, Butita joked about his situation, saying he cannot clearly define whether he is dating or not.
“I don’t think I’m single, and I don’t think I’m dating. Nikop hapa hapa, niko katika harakati ya kutega na kutenda,” Butita said, suggesting he is in the process of trying to win someone’s heart.
He added that while he considers himself single, there is a woman somewhere who believes they are dating.
“Naeza sema niko single lakini kuna mtu anafikiria namdate,” he said, laughing.
Butita also explained that if he openly admitted to dating, it would cause public curiosity and pressure, with people immediately wanting to know who the lucky woman is.
“Naeza sema nadate, watu waanze kujiuliza ni nani,” he said.
The filmmaker was once dating comedienne Eunice Mammito, but their relationship ended in 2021.
