Janet Mbugua quit Citizen TV in 2017 after serving for five years. In her final message, she thanked the Royal Media Service (RMS) chairman SK Macharia for the opportunity.
Mbugua, who anchored alongside former Citizen TV journalist Hussein Mohamed, announced that she was leaving the station, without revealing her next destination.
During her tenure as one of the most prolific journalists in the country, Mbugua won several awards including being named one of the top three best news anchors in Kenya by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK).Â
In the subsequent year, she was named among the top 40 Under 40 awardees by Business Daily Africa. In 2016, she was appointed as the brand ambassador for the Lifebuoy Help A Child Reach 5 campaign, representing Kenya globally.
In addition to being a professional journalist, Mbugua advocates inclusivity for women and girls and is passionate about amplifying voices for social change. She is the founder of the Inua Dada Foundation, an organization whose mission is to create a supportive and accessible environment for primary school girls in Kenya.
In July 2017 she joined The Hive, a US-based organization seeking to amplify Gender Equality messaging in Kenya and Tanzania, as the Kenya Advisor. The Hive is supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
According to Dajom, Mbugua now joins a vibrant team dedicated to delivering compelling, solution-driven content across our multimedia platforms.
“Please join me in extending a warm NMG welcome to Janet. Let us provide her with the support she needs to settle and thrive in her role as we drive our shared vision of Positively Influencing Society,” Dajom added.
