Githunguri Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba has come forward with a bold message to President William Ruto following the conclusion of his five-day Mt Kenya tour on Friday, April 4, 2025.

In a post on her X account on Sunday, April 6, 2025, Wamuchomba took aim at the Head of State, criticising his tour and insisting that it had been a golden opportunity for locals from the region to milk money from him, given how he was distributing handouts in exchange for a chance to speak.

Wamuchomba, who suggested the president should visit again so locals could mint more money, also rebuked the tour in general, stating that it had presented a good opportunity for the head of state, alongside the MPs who blindly obey his orders, to reflect on their actions and use the situation as a mirror.

“Mr President should visit Mt Kenya every three months. It was a good ATM for the locals and a political mirror for him and his YES MPs,” she wrote.

Chopping board

Furthermore, Wamuchomba warned those MPs who were comfortable thinking they were on Ruto’s undisputed side that they would soon find themselves sidelined, as the president is only interested in retaining the support of popular leaders, not necessarily those who blindly accept his directives.

She stated it would be difficult for them to survive when the president decides to make adjustments while seeking support for 2027.

Wamuchomba showed no mercy towards the MPs, saying their eventual removal would serve as payback for how they had backed others who fell out with President Ruto to be impeached while also saying they deserved to be sent home for supporting the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

“Just like the last Parliament, all YES MPs will not escape the chopping board. Ruto will align with the popular aspirants. Anyway, no mercy; it’s payback for the impeachments and the finance bill pains. Ground is KING,” she posted.

Summoning incident

The sharp response came just hours after she revealed she had been summoned by the Kiambu County Criminal Investigation Officer (CCIO).
Her remarks had been made just hours before President Ruto’s tour of Githunguri, where he inspected the ongoing construction of the County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIPS) and visited the modern fresh produce market under construction.

Taking to her official social media accounts on Saturday, April 5, 2025, Wamuchomba, a vocal critic of the Head of State and an ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, linked the summons to Ruto’s tour of her constituency.

Wamuchomba on Ruto’s promises

According to her, she had been summoned because the people of Githunguri had refused to be swayed by what she termed fake promises and projects that never materialised.

She further stated that the growing number of arrests of government critics would not alter the fact that the Kenya Kwanza administration has failed to deliver on most of its promises to Kenyans.

“The CCIO Kiambu has, through a telephone call, summoned me because the great people of Githunguri refused to be lured by fake promises and projects that never materialised. Arrests you can make, but that will not change the facts! No more lies! You promised, deliver!” Wamuchomba wrote on X.

Wamuchomba has, in recent months, been a staunch critic of the Kenya Kwanza administration, attacking some of the government’s unpopular policies, such as the Social Health Authority (SHA).
