National Assembly minority leader Junet Mohamed has sustained attacks on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his shareholding claims, which hounded him out of office.
Speaking during the funeral ceremony of the late George Odour, Raila Odinga’s long-serving bodyguard, on Saturday, April 12, 2025, the Suna East lawmaker explained that he feels overjoyed every time Gachagua laments on TV.
Junet told mourners that he requests more tea whenever he sees Gachagua on TV so that he can enjoy Gachagua’s misery.
Which loosely translates to, “Right now he is the one talking everywhere, complaining over mistreatment of some people, yet he is the same person who used to wake up as early as 5:00 am to deal with us during the 2023 demonstrations while we were advocating for the cost of living and election reforms,” Junet stated.
“Right now, when I see him crying on TV, I feel so happy and request more tea and say, let him continue crying, we also cried during our time.”
Signatures at night to impeach Gachagua
At the same time, Junet revealed that he collected signatures to at night immediately after Gachagua’s impeachment motion was readied. He disclosed that he moved to MPs’ houses to convince them to support Gachagua’s ouster.
He went on to frame Gachagua’s ouster among his greatest achievements in the minority position.
” Kama Minority leader, one of my biggest achievements was to impeach your deputy. Hio nimeandika kwa kitabu nimefanya kazi ya maana sana kwa sababu yeye ndio alikuwa anaongoza mambo hii ya ubaguzi,” Junet stated.
“Mimi wakati hio motion ilikuja nilikuwa nasanya hizo signatures usiku. Nilikuwa natembea kwa nyumba za wabunge.”
Which loosely translates to: “As minority leader, one of my biggest achievements was to impeach your deputy. I have written that in my book because I did a great job, as he was leading in promoting disunity.”
Nonetheless, he vowed to support President William Ruto’s administration in fulfilling their campaign pledges. Junet also pledged to help devolution work.
