Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka‘s love life is a testament to the power of true love and the importance of finding the right partner.
Speaking candidly on the night of Thursday, April 3, 2025, Kalonzo shared a heartfelt account of his long-lasting relationship with his wife, Pauline Musyoka, revealing they dated for 13 years before eventually tying the knot after he was elected as a member of Parliament.
“I was elected in April 1985, and by December, I made sure I got married. I had a 13-year courtship with my wife. Although she is from Kitui, she would come and vote in my constituency, the then Kitui North,” Kalonzo said in the interview.
How they first met
The 71-year-old also recalled how he first met Pauline, which marked the beginning of their deep connection.
According to Kalonzo, their relationship dates back to their high school years when they first crossed paths at a Christian fellowship.
“I met my wife, Pauline, when we were both in high school. I was in Form Five in Meru, and she was in Form Two at Molangwe, a missionary school in Kitui. Then, both of us attended a Christian conference under the Kenya Students Christian Fellowship at Alliance Girls,” Kalonzo recalled.
“There, people were speaking in tongues, and we were just sitting there because we are AIC (African Inland Church), wondering what was wrong with us, and we started a conversation.”
Their connection deepened over the years, with Pauline visiting him while he was at university between 1974 and 1975. At the time, she worked at the Ministry of Labour at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
Afterwards, Pauline went to study in India, and Kalonzo also went to Cyprus to pursue further studies. From there, he says the rest was history, and their bond only grew stronger.
“She would come and visit me at the university between 1974 and 1975. She was then working in the Ministry of Labour at NSSF; then she went to study in India, and then I also went to study in Cyprus. From there, the rest is history, and she is my best friend,” he added.
Their enduring love story serves as a testament to their strong connection, one that has lasted decades and continues to be a pillar of support for Kalonzo throughout his political journey.
Kalonzo on Pauline’s health
Kalonzo also spoke about his wife’s health, acknowledging the immense support she has received from family, friends, and religious leaders, recalling moments of spiritual encouragement from a global religious leader and international gospel singer.
“I know if I were in a similar situation, Pauline would have taken better care of me. I cannot do enough for Pauline to give her comfort and to wish her recovery, and a lot of people have been praying for her,” he stated.
“One time, a bishop from Canterbury came here and prayed for her. Israel Mbonyi also came and played the guitar for her. I hold the view that one day she will stand and walk.”
Pauline’s medical condition has been a private matter for the Musyoka family. Since 2015, she has been in and out of hospitals both in Kenya and abroad.
On January 27, 2025, during a recent church service, the preacher called Kalonzo to the dais, handed him a white cloth and prayed for Pauline’s healing. He further instructed him to give the cloth to his wife as a symbol of prayer and healing.
“I don’t have anything to give her, but take this and give it to Sister Pauline. Tell her the pastor had given it to her. I am praying for her healing,” the preacher said.
