Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has commended President William Ruto’s foreign policy, saying it is raising Kenya’s global profile and attracting meaningful benefits for the country.
This comes as Ruto landed in China on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, for a four-day state visit.
In a statement shared via his X account on Wednesday, April 23, 2024, Kaluma praised Ruto’s diplomatic efforts, pointing out that the president has strengthened Kenya’s global presence in less than a year.
He noted that both the United States and China have received Ruto for state visits—a rare achievement for any African leader. In addition, the president has been hosted by several other countries, while Kenya itself has organised multiple international conferences and events.
Kaluma stated that these efforts are already paying off for Kenya by attracting investments and boosting the economy.
“In less than a year, President Ruto has been hosted by both the United States and China for State visits. This is in addition to being hosted by other States, and on top of Kenya hosting multiple international conferences and events bringing real money into Kenya,” Kaluma stated.
“On international diplomacy, President Ruto has done well and scores very high.”
Globetrotting president
Ruto’s travel calendar has indeed been packed over the past two years. In May 2024, he made a historic state visit to the United States, becoming the first African leader to do so in nearly 15 years.
During this visit, then-U.S. President Joe Biden declared Kenya a major non-NATO ally, the first sub-Saharan African country to receive such a designation.
The visit also aligned with Kenya’s leadership in an international mission to restore order in Haiti. Kenya pledged to send 1,000 police officers to help stabilise the troubled Caribbean nation.
In February 2024, Ruto visited Japan and secured Ksh350 billion in development funding. A few months later, in April, he travelled to Ghana, where he received the country’s highest national honour. During this visit, he also rallied support for Raila Odinga’s African Union leadership bid.
In June 2024, Ruto attended the first-ever Korea-Africa Summit in South Korea and later joined the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in September 2024. His return to China in April 2025 is part of continued efforts to strengthen ties between Kenya and Asia’s largest economy.
Ruto has also emerged as a key figure in peace and security efforts across the region. In September 2024, he visited Haiti and expressed Kenya’s willingness to lead a full UN peacekeeping mission there. Kenya is already heading a multinational security team helping Haiti tackle gang violence and political unrest.
Beyond bilateral visits, Ruto has been a regular face at major international gatherings. He was a guest at the G7 summit in Italy in June 2024 and took part in peace talks for Ukraine in Switzerland.
