The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a planned temporary traffic disruption that will affect a section of Mombasa Road.
KeNHA, in a statement shared via social media on Sunday, April 20, 2025, said that the traffic disruption scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10.00pm to Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 6.00 am, will affect the Mombasa Road section near Katani Road Junction.
The vehicular traffic along the Nairobi-bound lanes will be the most hit.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Katani Road Junction will experience traffic disruption along the Nairobi-bound lanes from Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10.00pm to Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 6.00am,” the authority announced.
The disruption is meant to allow for the installation of the fabricated footbridge beams.
KeNHA’s traffic management plan
According to KeNHA’s proposed traffic management plan, the Nairobi-bound vehicles from the Mlolongo general direction are supposed to join the service lane near the Mlolongo weighbridge, from where the road section will be closed. The vehicles will then turn via the next flyover and move to the service lane on the Mlolongo-bound lane and rejoin the Nairobi-bound lane via the flyover located near the Gateway Mall just after the Syokimau Airport Road.
“This is to allow for the installation of the second phase of fabricated footbridge beams. KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” KeNHA stated.
First phase
This is the second phase of the traffic disruption at the same section of the road, with the first phase having been conducted from Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 10.00 pm to Sunday, April 20, 2025, at 6.00 am.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Katani Road Junction will experience traffic disruption along the Mombasa-bound lanes from Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 10.00 pm to Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 6.00 am,” KeNHA announced in a statement shared on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
“This is to allow for the installation of the fabricated footbridge beams.”
KeNHA urges all road users to adhere to the traffic management measures, including following road signs, and to cooperate with the police and traffic marshals to ensure smooth flow of traffic and safety during the maintenance period.
“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” KeNHA stated.
They encouraged all travellers to plan their journey accordingly and expect minimal disruption to the road network outside of the designated closure hours.
