Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale on Saturday, May 3, 2025, asked Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to step aside and allow someone else to take over the docket if he was unable to restore security in the country.

The vocal legislator who attended the burial of a teacher who was robbed of over Ksh200,000 and later killed lamented over what he termed as a surge in insecurity in the country.

Besides the incident involving the teacher, Khalwale pointed out the recent case where five quarry workers were killed and two others injured when their vehicle was attacked by suspected al-Shabaab militants in the northeast.

Khalwale also highlighted the shooting of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were in Nairobi minutes after leaving National Assembly Chambers.

According to the firebrand politician, the recent incidents pointed to a surge in insecurity across the country under Murkomen’s watch.

Without mincing his words, Khalwale implored the CS to vacate the position and allow President William Ruto to pick a different person if he was unable to assure Kenyans of their security.

“CS Murkomen, if you cannot assure us security, then you are not fit to be Minister of Internal Security. I have nothing against CS Murkomen, but he has a job and a responsibility of telling us what is happening,” Boni Khalwale stated.

“Here in Mumias, a teacher was killed; in Mandera, the boys working in quarries are being killed; and if you come to Nairobi, MP Charles Ong’ondo Were was killed.

“Murkomen, where is your police? Where is your security? If you can’t go home! We want somebody else to do that work,” the Kakamega senator insisted.

Calls mount

Khalwale’s sentiments came hours after Baringo North MP Joseph Makilap asked the head of state to fire Murkomen over a banditry attack in Baringo North.

The MP accused the CS of demeaning the residents with his comments when he visited the area on Friday, May 2, 2025.

“My people in Baringo North have never wronged anyone. The one causing us problems and disrespecting us now is this incompetent minister of yours. President, we ask you to fire him. He is the problem in your government. Instead of solving the issue of security, you (Murkomen) are busy on social media and inciting people,” said Makilap.

“Us, the Arror residents, we have rejected this guy called Murkomen. He is the problem in the Kenya Kwanza administration. The rest of us worked hard to get this government,” he added.

By the time of the press, Murkomen had not responded to claims by Khalwale and Makilap.
