The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has dismissed as false a viral Facebook post claiming that cut-off points for education courses have been raised.

In a statement shared on its official X account on Sunday, April 13, 2025, KUCCPS flagged two Facebook groups as fake, one impersonating its 2025 enrollment platform and the other claiming to assist with HELB applications, and warned applicants against falling for such misleading sites.

“Beware of fakes and impersonators!” KUCCPS warned.

The placement agency has not issued any official communication regarding changes to the entry requirements for teacher training programmes or any other course.

Fake post

In the flagged Facebook post, the author claimed that KUCCPS had revised the cut-off points for education courses, warning that students with a C+ might miss out on slots in public universities.

The post further stated that the new cut-off was 27 points and above, suggesting that only private institutions would admit students with a C+ for education degrees.

“KUCCPS has revised their cut-off points for education, and the current ones are C+; students interested in education might miss out. This is due to the rise of cut-off points, which many aren’t considering,” the fake post read.

“The current cut-off points are 27 and above in public universities. This means you can only do a degree in education with a C+ if you go to a private institution. Make informed decisions.”

Course application

On Friday, March 28, 2025, KUCCPS officially opened its portal for 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates to apply for degree courses.

In an official notice, the agency announced that the qualified students can now log in to its portal and select their preferred programmes in universities and colleges across the country.

In addition to degree courses, KUCCPS has also invited candidates who sat for their KCSE exams between 2000 and 2024 to apply for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes and Teacher Training College (TTC) courses.

The deadline for applications is April 21, 2025. Candidates are advised to apply early to avoid last-minute inconveniences.

“Attention, 2024 KCSE cohort! You can now apply for degree courses via the @KUCCPS_Official portal. Deadline: April 21,” KUCCPS announced.

Entry points

On Thursday, February 27, 2025, the Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Ogamba said that the minimum requirement for university entry, which will apply to the 2024 KCSE cohort, is a mean grade of C+ (plus).

Furthermore, the CS added that all 246,391 students from the 2024 KCSE cohort who attained a C+ (plus) and above are eligible for university admission.

“The government has not reintroduced cut-off points for admission to university. The minimum admission requirement to university, which will apply to the 2024 KCSE cohort, is a mean grade of C+ (plus). Therefore, all the 246,391 students who attained a mean grade of C+ (plus) and above qualify for university admission,” the Education CS said.
