Members of the County Assembly of Kiambu have called out Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro for what they say is meddling in the affairs of the county.

Speaking on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, in Kiambu, the MCAs led by the Assembly’s leader of the Majority party, Godfrey Waiyaki Mucheke, appealed to the leaders to cease and desist from making utterances that hinder service delivery in the county.

“We are asking Junet Mohamed and Sylvanus Osoro to concentrate on the matters in their respective counties and leave Kiambu County alone,” Mucheke said.

“For the Kiambu MPs who are enabling them to cause division in the County, my appeal to you is that could you please be humane enough during these five years because we lost the previous term between 2017-2022 as a result of political bickering.”

Undue influence

Mucheke urged the investigative authorities to perform their roles without undue influence from politicians, noting that Kiambu residents stood to lose more in the face of the current dilemma.

The remarks come just days after Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi said that his arrest was more political than it is for accountability and transparency, as indicated by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

“This is not about justice—it’s a political scheme aimed at bringing down a working government,” Wamatangi said on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, after he was released by EACC officials.

Osoro and Junet’s remarks

He also indicated that only the best-performing County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) had been targeted alongside him.

Among those under investigation are Peter Njoroge Ndegwa (County Secretary), Nancy Njeri Kirumba (CECM Finance), Salome Muthoni Wainaina (CECM Lands and Housing), William Kinyanjui Kimani (Chief Officer, Finance), Phyllis Wanjiru Muiruri (Director, Supply Chain) and Henry Mburu Waweru (Director, Revenue).

Osoro and Junet had earlier questioned the bundles of cash found stashed in Wamatangi’s residence during his arrest on April 15, 2025.

“Some governors were even found with cash in the house. A governor keeps Ksh12 million in his bedroom, and when he is caught up with, he moves along Kenyatta Avenue shouting that it is all personal vendetta,” Osoro said on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the National Assembly.

Junet had questioned why the Ksh12 million recovered by the EACC during a raid on Wamatangi’s home was not in a bank account.

“We are passing this bill so that people get afraid of stashing money in their homes instead of bank accounts. If the money is in the bank account, there is a formal way of accounting for it,” Junet noted.
