Legendary musician Major Nameye Khadija, widely known as Mejja, has opened up about a tough chapter in his life, revealing how parting ways with his long-time manager Shiko Kamau affected not only his career but also his mental and emotional well-being.
Speaking during a candid interview with Milele Breakfast hosts on Friday, April 25, 2025, Mejja revealed that 2024 was a particularly difficult year for his music career after ending his professional relationship with his manager of over ten years, a decision that left him feeling disoriented and emotionally drained.
Comparing the effects of the fallout to a romantic relationship break-up, the Utawezana hitmaker revealed that he was forced to seek refuge at his mother’s place to heal and to gather himself.
“Last year nilipitia vitu mob sana; first of all, nilikuwa na manager nilikuwa na yeye for more than ten years, so tuliachana na yeye last year. Ilikuwa tu kama crew yangu yote ni vitu tu za ndani zilihappen hapa na pale. ilikuwa kama break-up ya relationship nilihave kuenda kuka na Matha,” he explained.
He went on to say that the split did not just affect his music career; it hit close to home. Mejja explained that Shiko was not just his manager but also handled his business and was part of his close circle of friends.
“Walikuwa bado ni mabeste wangu; vitu nilikuwa nina pitia nilikuwa na share na wao, alafu huyo ni mtu ambaye alikuwa anadeal na biashara yangu, vile nilijipata niko hivyo, nikakosa kurudi kwa footing yangu poa,” he added.

Mejja on music hiatus
The talented rapper further disclosed that he stepped back from releasing music to work on himself after he released his hit songs G Baga Jat and Tic Tac in 2024 because his mind was not at peace, and his creativity suffered.
“Nikitoa music last year hiyo G baga Jat na Tic Tac nikatulia nikafeel ni kama niko na vitu mingi kwa akili; creativity yangu haiku vile inafaa kukuwa kinaona wacha ni hold kidongo nirudi poa, roho yangu kwanza irudi poa,” he explained.
Mejja, who feels ready to turn the page after dropping his new song, dubbed ya mwisho, is set to release his first full album, a major milestone in his career.
“Kazi ilikuwa ni kurecord; hii ngoma nimerelease nimekuwa nayo kutoka last year. Hiyo kunyamaza sana kwangu ilikuwa ni personal issues, alafu na believe nafaa kucreate art kama roho iko sawa vile tuliingia hii mwaka nkafeel it is the right time. Hii ndio my first album sijawai toa tangu nianze career yangu,” he added.
