Inject Party leader Morara Kebaso has revealed details of his meeting with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Kebaso said they discussed key national issues, including political reforms, youth unemployment, and human rights concerns.

In a statement shared via his X account on Saturday, March 1, 2025, Kebaso emphasized the need for practical steps to drive meaningful change in the country. He noted that the discussions focused on the state of Kenyan politics and the urgent need for reforms to address pressing societal challenges.

“I met with HE @rigathi to discuss the reality of Kenyan politics and the practical steps that should be taken for meaningful reforms. We also discussed the issue of youth unemployment, economic exclusion, and human rights abuse,” Kebaso stated.

The meeting also touched on justice for victims of police brutality, abductions, and extrajudicial killings, issues that have continued to spark debate and concern among Kenyans.

“He shared with me his thoughts about what should be done to exact justice for victims of police brutality, abduction, and extrajudicial killings,” he added.

Kebaso affirmed his commitment to engaging leaders from different sectors, including politics, religion, and civil society, to amplify the voices of young people seeking change.

“I will continue to engage leaders from across the political, religious, and civic space in amplifying the voice of the youth in their quest for change.”

Morara on corruption

This comes a day after attending the launch of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP). During the launch, Kebaso made an appeal to party leader Martha Karua, urging her to appoint him as the head of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) should she ascend to the presidency.

The PLP’s official launch, which took place on Thursday, February 27, 2025, was attended by prominent opposition figures, including Gachagua, Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa.

Speaking at the event, Kebaso, who has in the past signaled his intention to vie for the presidency, expressed deep concern over the country’s entrenched corruption, describing it as a critical barrier to Kenya’s development.

“I have had the privilege of touring this country—32 counties in total. Na mheshimiwa, mimi nataka kukuambia yakwamba ile mambo inaendelea hapa ni wizi, wizi bila kazi. It’s theft to the left, theft to the right, and theft in the centre,” Morara lamented.

Highlighting the extent of the vice, he stated that a portion of Kenya’s national budget is lost to corruption.

“Out of a budget of Ksh3.9 trillion, 70 per cent of it goes to theft and pilferage of public funds. And if you go everywhere in this country, it is dead project after dead project. Corruption has killed our devolution; it has killed opportunities for young people,” he added.

The outspoken activist-turned-politician urged Karua to prioritize the war against corruption if she secures the presidency.

“Please, if you get an opportunity, give that a thought and ensure that we end corruption in our country,” he implored.

Kebaso made it clear that his ultimate objective is to eradicate graft from the country. He pledged to serve as EACC chair without pay if Karua entrusted him with the role.

“Mimi nina azma ya kuwa rais wa Kenya, but that is the will of God. It’s God that gives leadership; it’s not me to give it to myself. If you become our president ahead of me, ile kitu peke yake naomba ni kiti ya anti-corruption. I want to work for free; I don’t want to be paid. Nipatie tu hio kiti ya EACC na uzime simu uniwache mimi nitashugulikia hawa watu,” he asserted.
