David Oyando, the Kenyan comedian better known by his stage name Mulamwah, has confirmed his breakup with fiancée and baby mama Ruth K, marking the end of a highly publicized relationship that began in 2021 and culminated in a romantic proposal just weeks ago.

The comedian made the announcement through his social media channels on Thursday, writing in bold uppercase letters that the decision was mutual: “YES, ITS TRUE WE HAVE DECIDED TO PART WAYS WITH R.K. It was nice while it lasted.”

The breakup comes as a surprise to many, especially since Mulamwah and Ruth K had only recently celebrated their engagement.

N/B: Mulamwah and Ruth K may be taking Kenyans for a ride with their breakup announcement, considering their history of clout-chasing — and the fact that the supposed split comes just weeks after their engagement.

On February 17, Ruth took to Instagram to share the joyful news, showing off a glimmering engagement ring surrounded by roses.

“I said yes,” she captioned the post, her excitement palpable in the video and images that followed. Mulamwah echoed the sentiment in his own post, cheekily noting that “cute fingers like hers deserve rings,” alongside heart and kiss emojis.

Love story

The couple’s love story began in a rather unassuming place – a hardware store in Kitale, where Ruth worked and where Mulamwah was shopping for supplies for his house.

That chance encounter turned into a quiet but intensifying romance, which they initially downplayed as a deep friendship.

Mulamwah would often refer to Ruth as his ‘bestie’, a term he once claimed was more romantic than calling her his girlfriend.

Despite the coy public messaging, the relationship deepened.

In October 2023, Mulamwah visited Ruth’s family in what appeared to be a traditional wedding ceremony, although both continued to refer to one another with the ‘bestie’ label.

The pair welcomed their son, Oyando Jr., in February 2024, further bonding their lives and public images.

Carol Sonnie

Their split (if indeed is true) marks the second high-profile breakup for Mulamwah in just a few years.

In 2021, he ended his relationship with fellow content creator Caroline Muthoni, popularly known as Carol Sonnie.

The two had a daughter, Keilah Oyando, born in September 2021.

Mulamwah later revealed that they had separated when Carol was three months pregnant, but he had waited until after their daughter’s birth to make it public.

The breakup with Carol Sonnie was accompanied by protracted child support disputes and accusations traded across social media, which kept the two in the headlines well beyond their romantic split.

This latest breakup has not yet been accompanied by controversy, but its timing – so soon after a proposal – has left fans speculating.

Neither Mulamwah nor Ruth K has elaborated on the reasons behind the separation.

For now, Mulamwah, known for balancing comedy with candor, seems to be turning the page on another chapter in his personal life.

Whether this marks a quiet exit or a prelude to more drama remains to be seen – but for his many fans, the Mulamwah love saga continues to be as captivating as his comedy.
