Kenyan comedian David Oyando, popularly known as Mulamwah, has called on netizens to give him a breather after spending an entire week as the internet’s most talked-about figure.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Mulamwah insisted that he had reached a point where constantly trending online had worn him down, urging netizens to now find someone else to obsess over and let him rest.

“Nimechoka kutrend, mtu mwingine ajitokeze sasa, atrend iko bana, eei,” Mulamwah posted.

The comedian’s recent expression of frustration comes hot on the heels of his stand-up comedy show dubbed ‘Let Me Explain’, which went down at the Kenya National Theatre on Sunday, April 20, 2025.

The trolls that followed the show were largely provoked by his own remarks that he had planned the entire performance with zero expectations of anyone actually turning up to support him—a sentiment that sent online debates into overdrive.

During the show, Mulamwah did an interview with YouTubers and confessed that he was genuinely surprised by the turnout, saying that he had not known that people would show him such love, even throwing subtle shade at netizens for rarely showing physical support despite being notoriously loud online.

“I knew there isn’t much genuine support online, so when I decided to begin, I did so with that truth already embedded in my mind—I knew I was walking this road solo, counting only on those who would choose to stand with me—and although you might have seen my friends, the ones I did videos with and collaborated with, in the end, I was the one spearheading the whole project, and that, right there, is what made support the greatest challenge,” he shared back then.

This landed him on the receiving end of sharp criticism, with some netizens, particularly TikTokers, interpreting his remarks in various ways, questioning why he would think people wouldn’t support him when they often show up for other celebrities during their shows.

Breakup

However, the biggest talking point that has kept him trending has been his announcement that he and his long-time partner, Ruth K, are no longer together, compounded by her notable absence from his stand-up comedy show.

Many fans believed the breakup was just a publicity stunt to generate buzz for the show, but when she didn’t show up, social media erupted with speculation about her absence—further fuelling the online chatter and keeping Mulamwah firmly in the spotlight.

The comedian made the breakup announcement on Thursday, April 10, 2025, through his social media platforms, posting in bold uppercase letters that the decision was mutual: “Yes, it’s true we have decided to part ways with R.K. It was nice while it lasted.”. It was nice while it lasted.”

The breakup came as a shock to many, especially given that Mulamwah and Ruth K had only recently celebrated their engagement.

On February 17, 2025, Ruth took to Instagram to share the joyous news, flaunting a glittering engagement ring surrounded by roses.

“I said yes,” she captioned the post, her excitement palpable in both the video and the images that followed. Mulamwah echoed the sentiment in his own post, cheekily writing, “Cute fingers like hers deserve rings,” followed by heart and kiss emojis.

Love Story

The couple’s love story began in the most unassuming of places—a hardware store in Kitale, where Ruth worked and Mulamwah had gone to buy supplies for his house.

That chance meeting blossomed into a quiet but deepening romance, which the two initially downplayed as a strong friendship.

Mulamwah would frequently refer to Ruth as his ‘bestie’, a term he once said was more romantic than calling her his girlfriend.

Despite their public coyness, the relationship clearly evolved.

In October 2023, Mulamwah visited Ruth’s family in what looked like a traditional wedding ceremony, although both continued to publicly refer to each other as ‘bestie’.

The two welcomed their son, Oyando Jr, in February 2024, a milestone that further intertwined their personal lives and public image.

Carol Sonnie

Their split—if indeed true—marks Mulamwah’s second high-profile breakup in just a few years.

Back in 2021, he ended his relationship with fellow content creator Caroline Muthoni, popularly known as Carol Sonnie.

The two had a daughter, Keilah Oyando, born in September 2021.

Mulamwah later disclosed that they had separated when Carol was three months pregnant, but he had chosen to wait until after their daughter’s birth to go public.

That breakup was trailed by lengthy child support battles and online mudslinging, which kept both of them in the public eye long after their romantic ties were severed.

This most recent split, however, has so far unfolded without controversy—but the timing, coming just weeks after a proposal, has left fans speculating.

Neither Mulamwah nor Ruth K has provided any further details on the reasons behind the breakup.
