Comedian and content creator David Oyando alias Mulamwah has outlined conditions that should be met by Steve Maghana, also known as Oga Obinna, to settle their beef that has been going on for days.
In an interview with a local TV station whose sister radio station Obinna stormed out of a live session, Mulamwah expressed his frustration over Obinna, whom he accused of attempting to drag junior content creators down instead of lifting them.
“Obinna is my elder brother in the industry because he started way back before me. We used to watch him on TV before we even became comedians,” Mulamwah said.
“I would like to tell him that he should be the bigger person here. When somebody does something, you should just comment on it positively; you don’t have to be the centre of everything by trying to latch onto every trending thing.”
Fuss over invitation
He indicated that other senior content creators had reached out to him and shared his videos despite failing to physically attend, while Obinna had taken offence at not being invited to the show.
“I expected him to share the video of my show now that he could not make it to the event, instead of complaining that he was not invited,” Mulamwah said.
“You have to buy tickets to attend shows; otherwise, how are we going to pay the artistes and other expenses, including the hall, when all you want is entertainment? It doesn’t work like that.”
On Monday, April 21, 2025, Mulamwah organised and hosted a live event dubbed Konki Show in Nairobi, which was sold out, with him sharing afterwards the success it was on his social media.
Conditions for reconciliation
While admitting that a little push and shove was healthy for the industry to grow, Mulamwah maintains that Obinna should show a little love for the up-and-coming content creators like himself.
“Just give the person his flowers; let them enjoy the moment. He is the senior person here, and I am junior to him. When he looks down upon us, it appears as though we are fighting,” he observed.
“I think a little friction in the industry is healthy so that once in a while we can sharpen our horns.”
He revealed that Obinna will have to apologise and right his wrongs before they can get back to talking terms.
“We haven’t really spoken, but if he wants to talk, then he can call. I blocked your other line, so in case you intend to reach out to me, look for another number and call me,” Mulamwah stated.
“I expect that you come correct, apologise for the wrongs you have done, and then we can proceed well. I believe we can just be respectful, and I do not have a problem with him.”
Adding: “It is only fair that if you are the bigger celebrity and more successful, then you should just support the juniors. Many people did not come to my show, but I have not seen them make a fuss about it.”
Obinna, however, maintains that he only recently discovered that Mulamwah has been harbouring bad feelings towards him.
“Anything I say about Mulamwah ends up being shifted (sic). The guy who is offended is also a bully,“ Obinna said before storming out of a live interview on Friday, April 25, 2025.
