Nuru Okanga has weighed in on President William Ruto and Raila Odinga’s joint government agreement signed at the KICC on Friday, March 7, 2025.

Speaking during an interview with a local youtuber, Okanga who is Raila’s diehard supporter expressed dissatisfaction with the decision stating that it is the biggest political blunder the former prime minister has ever made.

He accused the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader of using his supporters to elevate himself for key government positions without considering how the decision affects them.

As he dismissed the decision, Okanga asserted that contrary to the signed agreement that will allow ODM to collaborate with Kenya Kwanza to deliver campaign pledges to the people, both parties should operate independently devoid of influences from each other.

Ruto-Raila pact

Raila and Ruto officially signed the framework agreement which they say is meant to enable ODM to collaborate with Kenya Kwanza in fulfilling campaign pledges to the people.

Speaking during the event, Ruto emphasized that the memorandum of understanding is focused on prioritizing the interests of the citizens.

“This moment is not about William Ruto or Raila Odinga; this memorandum of understanding is not about sharing positions or winning elections. It is about the interests of the people of Kenya,” Ruto said.

Raila on the other hand said the MoU will help to ease tensions and alleviate the political, social and economic issues plaguing the country.

“We have agreed to use our parties as a broad platform bringing together various voices, opinions and concerns to address the critical challenges facing the country through a formation that is truly inclusive in outlook. We make it clear that the Memorandum we have signed today does not define the formation of a political coalition between ODM and UDA. However, its successful implementation could inform the basis of steps towards the establishment of a constitutive formation of a stable country in future,” he said.

However, hours after signing the agreement, the ODM leader set the record straight that the memorandum should not be misunderstood as the formation of a political coalition between their two parties.

“We make it clear that the memorandum we have signed today does not define the formation of a political coalition between ODM and UDA. However, its successful implementation could inform the basis of steps towards the establishment of a progressive formation for a stable country in the future,” Raila said.

Lawmakers drawn from across the political divide, government officials and Cabinet Secretaries attended the event.
