In a significant political development, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has been spotted in a meeting with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, among other political leaders, days after jetting back into the country after spending weeks in the United States.

Other leaders present during the Tuesday, April 29, 2025, meeting include People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, Democratic Action Party leader Eugene Wamalwa, former Public Service CS Justin Muturi, former Agriculture CS Mintika Linturi, Mukhisa Kitui and Maore Maoka.

While details of the meeting remain unclear, the high-profile gathering of prominent political figures signals potential realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election. However, Karua, taking to her official X account, posted a photo of them after the meeting welcoming Matiang’i, Muturi, Linturi and Kitui, hinting at joining forces with them at the People’s Loyal Coalition.

“Welcoming our brothers ⁦ @DrFredMatiang @skmusyoka @rigathi @EugeneLWamalwa,” she wrote

On the other side, Gachagua and Kalonzo welcomed Matiang’i, Muturi, and Linturi to their team, emphasising that they are on the right side of history as they join the movement to liberate Kenya.

“The team to liberate Kenya gets bigger every day. Welcome, Dr Fred Matiangi, Hon. JB Muturi and Hon. Mithika Linturi. You are on the right side of history,” Gachagua posted.

“A very good morning and welcome onboard. This is the team that will komboa Kenya,” Kalonzo said.

⁩Matiangi’s presidential bid

The Jubilee Party, on Thursday, February 20, 2025, endorsed Matiang’i as the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement, Kioni stated that the decision was arrived at following a consultation with the party’s representatives from across the country.

“These members here have joined others across the country and other leaders of other parties by also saying they want their own presidential candidate as a party,” Kioni stated.

On Friday, April 25, 2025, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka reaffirmed his support for Matiang’i’s presidential ambitions, calling for collaboration to support his bid.

“We have decided that anybody who wants to come and support our candidate, Dr Fred Matiang’i, is free to do so. My conviction is that politics of inclusion is much better than exclusion,” he said.

“Back home, we are local political competitors. Nationally, we must join hands. Those who are against our candidate are also free to disagree with us, but with decorum.”
