Former Senate Majority Leader Samuel Poghision has challenged President William Ruto to get off the roads and embark on delivering the meaningful projects he promised Kenyans.
Speaking during a live interview on Monday, April 14, 2025, Poghisio hit back at the president’s recent response to the critics of his government.
According to Poghisio, the president has little time on his side and ought to be showing the achievements of his administration two and a half years into his first five-year tenure.
“The president weighed in a bit about his time that is remaining and also spoke about his second term. I think he thinks and imagines he’ll get a second term and then he can be able to complete some of his projects in the country. By saying he’ll prove them wrong the time is very short if you can’t prove it by mid-term. Then getting to prove becomes hard,” he said.
The KANU politician accused the president of unwittingly plunging the country into a campaign mode and straying from the focus of important development work.
“In this country, politics have already begun. The president is always in the campaign mode and has pushed everyone into an early campaign. They are spending more money and resources on campaigns on the road while making promises. We are making people think if you can come to rallies no one will bother with what you’re doing at home,“ he added.
Poghisio further drew comparisons between the working of the current administration to that of former President Mwai Kibaki.
“When Kibaki met people on the road, he was hard on them. He expected people to be at home working or doing something meaningful. But this government thrives on people being on the rallies,” he added.
Poghisio’s remarks follow after the president and his deputy reiterated their commitment to deliver on their mandates.
Speaking on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at separate functions, Kindiki said the administration is committed to delivering its promises and only needs time.
The DP further affirmed that all the promises President William Ruto made during the 2022 campaigns would be fulfilled.
Ruto on his part stated that his administration is on track to fulfill its commitments and that doubters will soon be silenced by results.
“We are going to make sure we acquit ourselves in every commitment we have made, na mimi si wazimu; I know what I am doing, so hii maneno yote tutapangana namna hiyo,” he added.
