President William Ruto has come out to defend the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and its leadership following a series of attacks from political leaders and Kenyans on various platforms.

Speaking in Nakuru while presiding over the Cadets Commissioning Parade at the Kenya Military Academy in Lanet on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the head of state condemned a section of Kenyans for dragging the military into random conversations, insisting that the KDF is a pillar of national stability and urging that it be treated with utmost sensitivity.

The commander-in-chief thus asked Kenyans to keep off the military and avoid dragging them into random political and other discourses.

“I therefore want to urge all Kenyans, leaders, politicians, and journalists alike that our military men and women are the anchor for our stability. They are the insurance of our development, and therefore, we must be sensitive and keep off matters military in random talk,” Ruto stated.

While sounding the warning, the head of state made it clear that his administration was determined to defend the military against any form of attacks sponsored by political leaders, Kenyans and even the media.

”My administration and myself as the Commander in Chief, will defend by all means possible, our military as they guarantee our stability and our development,” he added.

Kahariri’s blasted

Ruto’s sentiments came after a section of opposition leaders openly castigated General Charles Kahariri over his remarks on ‘Ruto must go’ chants.

Kahariri stated that any attempts to transfer power must be made through acceptable means, lest Kenyans risk destroying the country.

“We, as the military, defend the Constitution and the government of the day, duly elected by the people. So when you decide that you are tired of the government you elected and then you start chanting ‘Must Go’, ‘Must Go’, that ‘Must Go’ must be done according to the Constitution,” Kahariri warned.

The general was however reprimanded with the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua warning him against sucking the military into politics.

“Do not bring politics in the military, and for your information, when people chant ‘Ruto Must Go, it is not to say that Kenyans want to remove the president through illegal means. It is a clarion call in preparation for the general elections. Ruto will be removed from office through constitutional means in August 2027,” Gachagua stated.
