Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Sabina Chege dazzled residents of Mathioya with her dance moves during a public function on April 14, 2025.

Chege was swarmed by a group of at least 10 male dancers who swayed their hips in no particular order to get the attention of the nominated MP, who seemed elusive to their advances.

However, as the Olodumare song by Joel Lwaga hit refrain, Chege could not help but get down as she enjoyed the song in the company of the dancers who scrambled to get a piece of her, with every move she made.

Video vixen

Chege, who was formerly a video vixen for the late Kikuyu Benga maestro De’Matthew, showed her dance moves despite having transitioned from the screens into public service years ago.

In De’Matthew’s Njata Yakwa (You are my star) track, which ruled the airwaves back in the day, Chege was the video vixen as the crooner confessed his love for the lady in the song.

She would later on become a radio presenter with Coro FM and then move to Kameme and KBC before cutting her political teeth in 2013 by becoming the inaugural Murang’a County Woman Representative in a landslide victory and getting re-elected in 2017.

Born for the screens, Chege also acted in the popular TV soap Tausi in the late 90s and early 2000s as Rehema, where she sharpened her dancing moves.

Education initiatives

However, in Mathioya, the nominated MP was in the constituency at the invitation of Betty Maina, her immediate successor as the Women Rep of Murang’a, to distribute bursary cheques for the education of area students.

Of note is that Chege served as the chairperson of the National Assembly departmental committee on education during her first term in the August House before being moved to the health committee in her second term.

During the event in Mathioya, she urged the residents to rally behind President William Ruto to benefit from the national cake, having changed allegiance herself to the president in 2023 despite being nominated by former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party.

“My message to our people in Mathioya and the entire Murang’a County. We must support the government of the day for an equal share of the National cake. I agree that in the last general elections, I supported Raila Odinga, but we lost to William Samoei Ruto; therefore, it’s our collective responsibility to pray for him and his administration for the prosperity of our country, Kenya,” Chege said.
