Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has raised the alarm over the growing number of jobless youth in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, warning that the situation could soon spiral into a serious security threat if urgent action is not taken.
Taking to his official social media channels on Friday, April 18, 2025, Salasya urged Governor George Natembeya to prioritise job creation, particularly in areas like Matisi, Saboti constituency.
The youthful parliamentarian who visited the region during his western Kenya sensitisation tour warned that if this issue is not addressed soon, specifically within the next three years, Kitale could become unsafe for the general public.
“Many young people in Kitale are jobless, and this must be addressed, or else Kitale will be a dangerous place going forward. Hadi Muchana Vijana are walking with knives,” Salasya said.
“The governor must come up with a programme to create jobs for those young people in Matisi, or else give it 3 years; it will be dangerous for the general public in Kitale.”
Salasya on political veterans
He further sent a strong message to seasoned politicians following a successful tour of five counties in Western Kenya, where he was accompanied by a convoy of young leaders championing a new era of leadership.
Reflecting on the tour, Salasya expressed gratitude to the youth who joined him, noting the scale and energy of the initiative.
“Five counties tour with this big convoy; one man’s Gita is not a joke. My big thanks to the young leaders who accompanied me,” he added.
The outspoken MP declared that the youth of Western Kenya have risen and are ready to challenge the status quo.
“We are going to show them that this time pia sisi vijana wa western tumeamka,” Salasya stated.
In a pointed message to veteran political leaders, Salasya called for accountability from those who once held senior government positions.
“Kama umewahi kuwa big person in government, you must show us what you did when you were in that position. When you were the governor, you must show us how many tarmac roads you built and how you impacted your county’s livelihoods,” he said.
Salasya emphasised that the youth are no longer waiting for validation or support from veteran politicians.
“We are committed to uniting our people without those big boys. Ni sisi tu vijana tutaunganisha watu wetu,” he remarked.
