The government has launched a program that will allow Kenyans to make small Social Health Authority (SHA) contributions via mobile money.
The update was shared by Senior Advisor at the Council of Economic Advisors in State House Moses Kuria during his meeting with Nandi County CHPs and a section of body body riders.
Kuria also revealed that every CHP or body boda rider who assists members to join SHA and start making payment will get a Ksh20 commission.
The latest comes as part of the government’s intensified efforts to ensure effective functionality.
He had earlier commended President William Ruto for the health scheme claiming that SHA’s Taifa Care under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is so mega that it would earn him a Nobel Peace Prize.
Kuria who was speaking in Uasin Gishu County on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, continued to drum up support for the program stating that it is functioning effectively.
“I have no doubt in my mind that Taifa Care will be number one in the whole world, and by next year, when they are giving out the Nobel Prize, I am sure President Ruto will be given the Nobel because of coming up with this kind of comprehensive program,” Kuria said.
Continuing his praise for the program, Kuria said the health scheme is so successful that Egypt was coming to Kenya next week to study and benchmark the system.
”Two weeks ago, the Zambian government sent a delegation just to benchmark on SHA, next week, Egypt will be here for the same. While others criticise this initiative, it continues to get traction from international bodies because of how successful it is,” he added.
Despite Kuria’s praise for the program, several Kenyans and leaders from the political divide have continued to voice their discontent with the program insisting that it poses risk to lives due to its unreliability, ineffectivess among other issues.
