TikTok has announced that it deleted over 334,000 videos from its platform during the third quarter of 2024 for violating its Community Guidelines, a move aimed at reinforcing its safety measures in Kenya.

In its Q3 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report released on Thursday, February 6, the video-sharing platform revealed that 88.9% of these videos were taken down before any views, while 93% were removed within 24 hours of posting.

The report reveals that violations related to Integrity & Authenticity were among the most common, with 99.7% of such videos removed before any user flagged them. This initiative aims to address misinformation and fraud, fostering a trustworthy and credible online environment.

Another important area of focus was Mental & Behavioral Health, with 99.9% of harmful content taken down before any reports and 96.4% removed within 24 hours. This reflects TikTok’s commitment to protecting mental health, especially for younger users.

Regarding Youth Safety & Well-Being, 99.7% of content violating policies were removed before any views were made, further emphasizing the platform’s dedication to safeguarding minors. Similarly, 99.5% of inappropriate content under Sensitive & Mature Themes was removed before being reported, with 95.8% taken down within 24 hours.

TikTok’s dedication to safety extends beyond Kenya. During the same timeframe, the platform took down more than 147 million videos worldwide, with 118 million identified and removed by automated systems. This results in a 98.2% proactive detection rate, setting a strong benchmark for global content moderation.

In Kenya, TikTok’s policies are tailored to address the specific challenges faced by its expanding user base. The platform is continuously enhancing its safety protocols to foster a reliable digital space.
