“Now henceforth, by dint of this precedent charter, may it be known to all that Eldoret Municipality shall have the status of a city. Together with all such rank, powers, and responsibilities as are incidental to a city under law, and its name is decreed to be the City of Eldoret,” Ruto declared.

Ruto elevated Eldoret from a municipality following the successful application process and approval by the Senate.

The City of Eldoret now becomes the fifth one after Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nakuru.
